The U.S. Senate has unanimously adopted a resolution marking National Police Week and reaffirming support for law enforcement personnel. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) co-sponsored the bipartisan resolution, which was led by Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Chair Dick Durbin (D-IL), along with 75 other Senate colleagues.

“On May fifth, Sergeant Bill Hooser of the Santaquin Police Department was killed in the line of duty. Earlier this week, Utahns from across the state gathered to mourn his loss with his loved ones and reflect on his life and service. My heart goes out to those family members and dear friends he left behind. Sergeant Hooser’s sacrifice is an important reminder to all of us—every single day our men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line to protect our communities,” Senator Romney said.

Romney further emphasized that during National Police Week, it is crucial for everyone to honor law enforcement officers, express gratitude for their service, and remember those who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. He expressed special thanks to officers in Utah and those serving on the U.S. Capitol Police force.

The bipartisan resolution was co-sponsored by a diverse group of senators including Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), John Cornyn (R-TX), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Mike Lee (R-UT), Chris Coons (D-DE), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Alex Padilla (D-CA), John Kennedy (R-LA), Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Thom Tillis (R-NC) among others.
