WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) has been honored as a "Fiscal Hero" for the 118th Congress by Fix the Debt—a project of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CFRB). Romney's bipartisan efforts to rein in the national debt and balance the federal budget have earned him this recognition.

Romney, who has prioritized budget and debt issues since entering Congress, has been advocating for the passing of the Fiscal Stability Act, a legislative initiative he introduced with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV). This act aims to create a bicameral fiscal commission dedicated to finding legislative solutions to stabilize and reduce the national debt.

Speaking on the importance of addressing the national debt, Senator Romney highlighted the risks of excessive spending, stating, "If you look at the history of great civilizations that have failed, a characteristic of their failure is that they start spending massively more than they take in." He emphasized the need to protect federal trust funds like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid while working towards a better future for future generations.

Maya MacGuineas, President of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and head of Fix the Debt, emphasized the urgency of the fiscal situation, stating, "Our debt is skyrocketing, interest costs are surging, major trust funds are approaching insolvency, and the national debt is threatening our national security." She commended the efforts of Congress members who have worked towards fiscal responsibility and applauded the passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act during this Congress.

Fiscal Heroes like Senator Romney are recognized for their dedication to improving the nation's fiscal situation and advocating for responsible budget policies. The award acknowledges their efforts in pushing for debt prioritization, leading bipartisan initiatives, and introducing legislation to enhance the budget process and fiscal position.
