The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the EXPLORE Act, a legislation aimed at expanding access to America's public lands and waters. Representative John Curtis (R-UT) played a significant role in this legislative milestone, with four of his bills included in the package.
In response to the passage of the EXPLORE Act, Rep. Curtis expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Passage of the EXPLORE Act is a testament to our collective commitment to enhancing and preserving access to America's stunning public lands and waters. This legislation, particularly the inclusion of four of my bills: the SOAR Act, PARC Act, Connect Our Parks Act, and BOLT Act, reflects our dedication to Utah's majestic landscape."
Chairman Westerman acknowledged Representative Curtis's advocacy for Utah's public lands, saying, “Several of his bills make up a core part of the EXPLORE Act, and everyone from rock climbers, long-distance bikers, and anyone who enjoys recreating in his home state of Utah and across the nation will benefit."
The International Mountain Bicycling Association also commended the House of Representatives for passing the EXPLORE Act. Todd Keller, the Director of Government Affairs at the International Mountain Bicycling Association, highlighted the significance of the Biking on Long Distance Trails (BOLT) Act within the EXPLORE Act, emphasizing its potential to enhance outdoor recreation experiences for biking enthusiasts.
The EXPLORE Act encompasses various initiatives to improve outdoor recreation experiences, including modernizing technology, streamlining permitting processes, reducing overcrowding in parks, and enhancing accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
With the bill now passed in the House, attention turns to the Senate for further action. The mountain bike community and outdoor enthusiasts are hopeful for swift progress and eventual enactment of the EXPLORE Act to benefit all Americans who enjoy the country's public lands and waters.
