U.S. Senator Mitt Romney, along with his colleagues, introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing the strength and importance of the United States-Japan alliance. The resolution was introduced in advance of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida’s official state visit to Washington this week.
“Our alliance with Japan is fundamental to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region,” stated Senator Romney.
Chair Cardin emphasized the ironclad nature of the alliance, saying, “We have never been more strategically aligned with our friends in Tokyo than we are today. This alliance plays a vital role in peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.”
Ranking Member Risch commended Japan's leadership and support, stating, “Japan is a leader in the world and a strong and steadfast ally of the United States.”
Senator Van Hollen highlighted the positive impact of the U.S.-Japan alliance on various aspects, saying, “The decades-long U.S.-Japan alliance has not only deepened the economic, security, cultural, and people-to-people ties between our two nations – it has also been a positive force for stability in the Indo-Pacific.”
Senator Hirono, the only Japanese-American serving in the Senate, expressed her pride in joining her colleagues in recognizing the importance of the relationship between the U.S. and Japan. She stated, “The alliance between the United States and Japan is critical.”
Senator Hagerty, a former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, emphasized the significance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance, calling it “one of our most important diplomatic, economic, technological, and military alliances in the world.”
The bipartisan resolution also includes provisions aimed at strengthening the bonds between the United States and Japan.
