Utah Valley baseball will travel to Salt Lake City to play against Utah on May 4 for a 6 p.m. MT game, according to an announcement from the team. This marks the final meeting of the season between the two teams, with Utah having won both previous games this year.
The matchup will be broadcast on ESPN+, featuring Bill Riley and Zach Burrows as commentators. Local radio coverage will also be available on 103.9 and 98.3 ESPN The Fan, with Jordan Bianucci and Brice Larson providing commentary from Salt Lake City.
In their most recent outing, Utah Valley lost a close game to California Baptist by a score of 2-1, which resulted in a sweep for California Baptist in Orem. Hunter Katschke led the Wolverines offensively over the weekend, going six-for-twelve at bat and hitting three home runs. Katschke set a new single-season record for UVU with his nineteenth home run of the year during Friday night’s game.
Pitchers Maddax Peck and Bradley Gilbert both had strong performances in Sunday’s game. Peck pitched five innings—the longest outing of his career—allowing four hits and striking out five batters. Gilbert contributed four innings with only one hit allowed and three strikeouts.
Utah enters Tuesday’s matchup holding an overall record of twenty-three wins and nineteen losses, including eleven wins in Big Twelve conference play this season. The Utes recently secured a series win against BYU in Utah County. As a team, they are batting .308 this season; Cameron Gurney leads individual statistics with a .376 average over forty-two games and is second on the team in runs batted in behind Jake Long with fifty-two RBIs along with ten home runs.
Ryan Kittredge is scheduled as starting pitcher for Utah after making fourteen appearances so far this year—including two starts—and previously pitching one-third of an inning against UVU earlier this season.
Looking ahead, Utah Valley will travel next weekend to face Abilene Christian for a three-game series beginning Friday, May 8 at 5:05 p.m.
