BYU’s TJ Wells and Otto Schreiner were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, according to a May 12 announcement. The recognition highlights their combined achievements in athletics and academics during the 2026 season.
The Academic All-District Men’s Tennis Team, chosen by College Sports Communicators, honors student-athletes for excellence both on the court and in the classroom. This selection is considered a notable achievement for collegiate athletes.
Wells, a junior from Alpine majoring in finance, received this honor for the second consecutive year. He played in all 22 matches for BYU during the season and won a team-high 14 doubles matches, with 12 of those wins coming alongside Tygen Goldammer. The pair began their spring campaign with eight straight victories, including back-to-back 6-1 wins over opponents from Boston College and Holy Cross. Wells has an all-time singles record of 18-13 and is 35-22 in doubles play. As a sophomore during the previous academic year, he won eleven singles matches, tying for most on his team.
Schreiner majors in accounting and secured nine doubles match wins out of fifteen played this spring while partnering with Adam Chodur at No.1 doubles court. Schreiner and Chodur qualified for the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships after winning ITA Regionals in Las Vegas but lost in the Round of 32 to North Carolina’s Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer. Schreiner ended his season strongly with notable doubles victories against pairs from Arizona State University and Utah.
This recognition reflects both players’ commitment to balancing rigorous academic pursuits with athletic competition at a high level.
