BYU swimmer Lucy Warnick earned a bronze medal in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:15.78 on Thursday during the third day of competition at the Big 12 Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. This result marks BYU’s first top-three finish at this year’s postseason meet.
After three days of competition, Arizona State leads the team standings with 960.5 points, followed by Arizona with 690.5 and Houston with 568.5. BYU is currently in eighth place with a score of 310.
In other events, sophomores Sarah Eliason and Lucy Marek achieved new top-10 times for BYU in the 100 butterfly during the bonus round of finals. Eliason finished at 53.62 seconds, recording the third-fastest time in program history, while Marek completed her race in 54.03 seconds for the sixth-fastest mark.
Earlier in preliminaries, Eliason placed 11th (54.07) and Marek took 20th (54.77) to qualify for finals in the same event.
Warnick advanced to the championship final of the 400 individual medley after placing fourth in prelims with a time of 4:17.06.
In the preliminary round for the 200 freestyle, Haylee Tiffany led BYU swimmers by finishing 15th (1:48.32), securing a spot in finals alongside teammates Tatum Cooley (18th, 1:48.78) and Victoria Schreiber (21st, 1:49.05).
During finals for these events, Marek won her bonus round heat in the 100 butterfly and Eliason finished second in her consolation heat; both set notable program records as previously mentioned.
Cooley and Schreiber took second and seventh respectively in their bonus round heats for the 200 freestyle final, while Tiffany was fourth in her consolation heat at a time of 1:48.06.
The session concluded with BYU’s relay team—Emma Marusakova, Warnick, Eliason and Tiffany—finishing tenth overall in the 400 medley relay at a time of 3:41.51.
In diving events, Aubryn Ordyna placed highest among BYU competitors on the three-meter board at twenty-fourth (237.65), followed by Sophia DeBergh (28th, score of 229.55) and freshman Brooklyn Goeckeritz (33rd, score of 212.35). No BYU divers advanced to finals rounds.
