Utah Valley University’s women’s basketball team will conclude its regular season on Saturday with a home game against Utah Tech. The match, part of the Old Hammer Rivalry, is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT at the UCCU Center and will also serve as Senior Day for the Wolverines, who will honor seven senior players.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Ethan Jordan providing play-by-play commentary and Josh Kallunki as analyst. Sammy Miller will report from the sidelines in Orem. Fans can access live statistics through GoUVU.com/stats.
In their previous outing, Utah Valley secured a 74-53 victory over Southern Utah at home. The team’s defense was notable for forcing 34 turnovers and recording 25 steals, which set a new program record for most steals against a Division I opponent. Kaylee Headrick led UVU with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Amanda Barcello, Cambree Blackham, and Halle Nelson each recorded at least five steals during the game.
Cambree Blackham set a single-season school record by reaching her 79th steal of the year in that contest. Barcello contributed 12 points while Blackham added 11.
Utah Tech comes into Saturday’s matchup with an overall record of 9-18 and a conference mark of 4-13 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Trailblazers have not won any road games this season but have recently improved their form by winning three out of their last four games at home. Kaylee Borden leads Utah Tech in scoring with an average of 15.6 points per game after transferring from Nevada. Brie Crittendon averages just over ten points per game and scored 18 points in the previous meeting between these teams while adding eight rebounds. In that earlier matchup at Burns Arena, Utah Tech made eleven three-pointers, including four from Lauren Crocker.
Since the start of the rivalry in the 2015-16 season, Utah Valley holds a 9-5 advantage over Utah Tech and has won four out of the last five meetings between the two programs.
Following Saturday’s game, seniors Kylee Mabry, Amanda Barcello, Saige Gibb, Kaylee Headrick, Halle Nelson, Tessa Chaney and Gracie Sorenson will be recognized for their contributions to the program during a postgame ceremony. This group has been part of back-to-back seasons with more than fifteen wins and helped secure UVU’s first postseason win since joining Division I competition.
Utah Valley is scheduled to participate in next week’s Air Reserve WAC Basketball Tournament at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Details regarding tournament seeding and game times are expected to be announced after this weekend’s games conclude.
