Utah Valley defeated Weber State 12-1 in Ogden, Utah, on March 31, completing a season sweep of the Wildcats. Tatum Hall led the team with five runs batted in, including a home run and a double. Bailey Marvin added three RBIs and Britney Moreno drove in two more as the Wolverines secured their first full-season series sweep over Weber State since 2013.
The victory marks Utah Valley’s 20th win of the season in just its 34th game, making it the fastest time to reach that milestone during its Western Athletic Conference era. The only faster starts came from the program’s Division I teams in 2012 and 2013.
Head coach Cody Thomson said, “It’s a good tuneup game for us to get our swings going again after the CBU series. We’ve got a pretty big series this weekend against UT Arlington, and I felt like this was a tuneup game to get going again. I was really proud of our pitchers that haven’t been throwing as much, Ella coming in for the start, and Hannah and Ruby coming in for relief. Especially in conference, it’s really helpful to get combined wins like today.”
Pitchers Ella Miller, Hannah Ortega, and Ruby Anderson held Weber State to one run on three hits over five innings. The only Wildcat run came from Appolonia Maldonado’s solo home run off Ortega after Utah Valley had already built a significant lead.
Utah Valley scored twice in the first inning on Marvin’s single before Hall hit her three-run homer in the third inning. Aggressive baserunning helped add two more runs in the fourth inning with Moreno driving them home. In response to Maldonado’s homerun for Weber State in the fourth inning, Utah Valley answered with five runs during their half of the fifth inning.
The Wolverines will next host UT Arlington at Wolverine Softball Field for a three-game series beginning Friday.
