Utah Valley University men’s basketball head coach Todd Phillips announced on May 18 the hiring of Andrew May as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the program.

The addition of May is significant for Utah Valley’s basketball program, bringing in a coach with a record of success at the junior college level. His experience and achievements are expected to contribute to the team’s development and competitive performance.

May comes to Utah Valley after serving as head coach at Snow College, where he led the Badgers to a 102-26 overall record over four seasons. His last two years included a 61-7 mark and a historic 32-2 campaign during the 2024-25 season, when Snow finished ranked No. 1 nationally for the first time in school history and earned the top seed in the NJCAA National Tournament. The team also went undefeated in Scenic West Athletic Conference play that year. “I’m thrilled to welcome Coach Andrew May to our staff,” said Phillips. “I have known Andrew for many years. He’s a great offensive mind and a tireless recruiter. He’s a coach who is always thinking outside the box. His ability to develop players and put points on the board speaks for itself. We couldn’t be more excited to have him in our corner.”

During his tenure at Snow College, May guided his teams to four consecutive seasons with more than twenty wins each, achieved several milestones including an undefeated conference season, national rankings, and multiple coaching awards such as NJCAA Media National Coach of the Year in 2025.

May’s teams were recognized nationally for their offensive efficiency during his final season at Snow College, producing several NCAA Division I signees including National Player of the Year Isaac Finlinson.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join Coach Phillips and his amazing staff at Utah Valley University as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator,” said May. “Growing up just a couple blocks from UVU, I am bullish on the incredible progress, momentum and trajectory of the university and… thrilled to be reunited with Coach Phillips… I look forward to helping our players grow… Let’s go!”

Before joining Snow College, May was an assistant coach at Utah Tech where he helped guide that program through its transition from Division II into Division I competition within the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). He previously worked alongside Phillips at Salt Lake Community College from 2011-15.

May also held roles under BYU head coach Dave Rose during some of BYU’s most successful periods—including their Sweet Sixteen run—and contributed through three straight NIT appearances.

Looking ahead, Utah Valley hopes that adding May will strengthen its coaching staff as it continues building momentum within collegiate basketball.
