Utah Valley University will host its only home track and field meet of the season, the UVU Collegiate Invitational, on March 26 at Hal Wing Track & Field. The Wolverines are set to compete against teams including Weber State, Brigham Young University, Southern Utah University, Utah State, Idaho State, Northwest Nazarene, Westminster College, Snow College, and the College of Southern Idaho.
The event marks an important occasion for local collegiate athletics as it brings together several regional teams for a day of competition. Gates will open at 7:30 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time with events beginning at 8 a.m. Admission and parking in all yellow lots surrounding the stadium are free to attendees. Live results from the meet will be available online at SportTrax.com.
This invitational is the first of two consecutive meets hosted by Utah Valley at Hal Wing Track & Field; later in the week, UVU will also organize the Utah County High School Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
In their previous outing at the Utah Tech Invitational in St. George last weekend, Utah Valley athletes achieved notable success with ten event wins and eight performances that rank among the top ten in school history. Caren Kipsirat delivered what was described as “the most dominant performance of the day,” winning the women’s steeplechase with a time of 10:21.89—a new meet record that stands second all-time for UVU—and finishing fifteen seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Other highlights included Sila Kiplagat’s victory in the men’s 5000-meter run with a time ranking fifth-best outdoors for UVU; Jayden Fitzgarrald followed closely behind for second place with another top-ten mark. Cameron Jacobs won first place in men’s steeplechase while Skyler Roper claimed victory in his debut race for UVU in the men’s 1500 meters.
Maddie Passmore took first place finishes in both triple jump (tied third all-time) and long jump events while Olivia Pixton returned from her mission to secure third place in triple jump and second place in long jump.
Looking ahead to early April, Utah Valley plans to send athletes to three separate meets: UNLV Rebel ELITE in Las Vegas as well as competitions at Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic held in Northern California.
