Utah Valley University’s women’s softball team split a doubleheader against the Pacific Tigers on Saturday at Bill Simoni Field in Stockton, California. The Wolverines secured a 7-0 victory in the first game, led by pitcher Lily Riley’s 6.1 shutout innings and five combined RBIs from Angelique Mann and Mya Higareda.

In the opening game, Utah Valley scored early, with Britney Moreno hitting a leadoff double and Emma Haygood driving her in for the team’s first run. Amber Rodriguez also contributed with a double and later scored on a groundout by Higareda. Mann added to the lead with a two-run single in the fourth inning, while Higareda drove in two more runs during a fifth-inning rally. Tatum Hall capped off the scoring in the seventh.

Hannah Ortega closed out game one by recording the final two outs against her hometown team.

The second game saw Pacific limit Utah Valley to just one run on one hit through six innings. The Tigers took control with three runs in the third inning off UVU starter Ella Miller. Bailey Marvin responded for Utah Valley with a solo home run in the fourth, but Pacific answered back and extended their lead to 5-1 after five innings.

Utah Valley mounted a comeback attempt in the seventh inning as Payge Armendariz doubled and Rodriguez singled to put runners at the corners. Ry Binne brought home another run with an RBI single, bringing Moreno to bat as the potential tying run. However, she grounded out to end the game at 5-2.
