Utah Valley University will host the Tarleton State Texans in a three-game Senior Weekend softball series on April 17 and 18 at Wolverine Softball Field. The first game of Friday’s doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. MDT, with the second game following shortly after, while Saturday’s matchup remains scheduled for noon and will include senior day festivities.
The weekend holds special significance as Utah Valley honors its eight graduating seniors: Angelique Mann, Kendyl Purdy, Mya Higareda, Hannah Ortega, Emma Haygood, Britney Moreno, Payge Armendariz, and Bailey Marvin. This marks the largest senior class since 2018 for the program.
Last week, Utah Valley secured a series win over Abilene Christian University by overcoming a five-run deficit in the sixth inning to win the finale 8-7—the team’s biggest comeback victory this season. In that series, infielder Britney Moreno stood out by going five-for-ten with a home run and tying both her school’s single-season triples record and extending her reached base streak to twenty games. Second baseman Tatum Hall contributed key hits as well and now has forty-four runs batted in this year—tied for seventh-most in school history.
The upcoming series features two of the top offenses in their conference; Utah Valley leads in extra-base hits while Tarleton State ranks closely behind in several offensive categories. Pitchers Lily Riley (Utah Valley) and Shelby Schultz (Tarleton State) are expected to face off as two of the Western Athletic Conference’s leading sophomores.
Historically, Utah Valley leads Tarleton State six games to four but lost all four meetings last season when playing away from home. However, Utah Valley is undefeated against Tarleton State at home since joining Division I status.
Looking ahead, Utah Valley will conclude its home schedule against Utah State on Tuesday before traveling to Idaho State next Wednesday.
