Utah Valley University lost a closely contested softball game to the University of Texas at Arlington, 9-7, on April 4. The match saw both teams exchanging leads before UTA scored three runs in the seventh inning to secure the win.
The result was significant for Utah Valley as it concluded a back-and-forth series finale. Bailey Marvin contributed with a three-run home run, and Britney Moreno extended her streak of reaching base to 16 games with three hits during the contest.
The game opened with UVU keeping UTA scoreless in the first inning for the first time in the series. However, UTA managed an early lead through an RBI single by Kelsey Creech. Payge Armendariz responded for Utah Valley with a sacrifice fly that tied the score. Marvin’s home run in the third put UVU ahead after UTA had rallied for two runs earlier in that inning.
Both teams continued trading scores, including matching two-run fourth innings and additional runs in the sixth following a controversial call at second base involving Moreno. Despite getting runners on base late, Utah Valley could not overcome UTA’s final rally.
Looking ahead, Utah Valley will play its next four games on the road starting Tuesday against BYU in what will be their last Crosstown Clash of the season.
