Utah Valley lost its series finale against the California Baptist Lancers, falling 6-3 on March 28 at John C. Funk Stadium in Riverside, California.
The loss puts Utah Valley at a record of 19-14 overall and 2-4 in Western Athletic Conference play, while California Baptist improves to 27-12 and 5-1 in the league. The result impacts both teams’ standings as they continue their conference schedules.
California Baptist scored first with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning. Utah Valley responded with a run-scoring single by Megan Sterzer in the second inning to tie the game. The decisive moment came in the third inning when California Baptist rallied for five runs, helped by two fielder’s choices that resulted in no outs and multiple errors by Utah Valley.
Utah Valley narrowed the gap later in the game. Tatum Hall scored on a wild pitch during the fourth inning, and Angelique Mann added a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring Utah Valley within three runs. However, these efforts were not enough for a comeback.
Looking ahead, Utah Valley will play Weber State on Tuesday for their final meeting of the season. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Mountain Time and will be streamed live on ESPN+, weather permitting. Afterward, Utah Valley is set to host UT Arlington over the weekend for a three-game series.
