Utah Valley freshman Sila Kiplagat has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Track Athlete of the Week for the meet week ending April 5, according to an April 8 announcement from the league.

Kiplagat, who is from Iten, Kenya, earned this recognition after setting his third school record of the year at the Stanford Invitational. He ran a time of 3:40.74 in the 1500-meter event, which currently leads all WAC athletes this season. Earlier in the indoor season, Kiplagat also set Utah Valley records in both the mile and 3000-meter events.

The Wolverines will compete in two local meets this weekend. On Friday they will participate at Weber State and on Saturday at Utah. In addition to these meets, several Utah Valley athletes are scheduled to compete at the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, California starting Thursday.

Kiplagat’s recent performances have contributed to raising expectations for Utah Valley’s track program as they enter a busy stretch of competition.
