Utah Valley lost 15-6 to Stanford University on March 23 in the series finale at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The Wolverines, now with a record of 10-13, were led by Brody Block’s three hits and a home run from Kaden Carpenter. Stanford improved to 11-12 after an eight-run second inning that helped them complete the sweep.

The game began with Utah Valley taking an early lead. Kaden Carpenter singled and later scored on an RBI double by Mason Strong, who also came around to score on Chipper Beck’s RBI single for a quick 2-0 advantage. However, despite loading the bases in the top of the second inning, Utah Valley was unable to extend their lead as Stanford turned a double play and induced a flyout.

Stanford responded forcefully in their half of the second inning with eight runs, giving them an 8-2 lead that they would not relinquish. In the third inning, Carpenter hit his sixth home run of the season for Utah Valley—a shot estimated at 372 feet—which ties his career high for homers in a season set during his sophomore year.

The Wolverines attempted to rally in the fourth inning when Jayden Smith doubled and scored on Hunter Katschke’s infield single. Katschke then scored on another RBI double from Carpenter. Despite loading the bases later that frame, Utah Valley could not capitalize further as Mason Hamlin grounded out.

Katschke continued his strong performance by driving in another run with an RBI double in the sixth inning—his fifth consecutive game with an RBI and six out of seven games driving one home recently. Cohen Baack and Chance Wallace each pitched scoreless innings of relief for Utah Valley.

Looking ahead, Utah Valley will return home for four games at UCCU Ballpark starting with a three-game series against Cal State San Bernardino this weekend before facing Utah on Tuesday, March 31.
