Utah Valley University lost to Brigham Young University 8-5 in a softball game on Mar. 24 at Wolverine Softball Field, after BYU took an early lead with a four-run first inning.

The result was determined by the opening frame, as BYU recorded six singles and established a quick advantage. Despite Utah Valley’s efforts to rally, including Tatum Hall hitting her fourth home run in five games, the Wolverines could not overcome the initial gap.

Utah Valley scored its first run in the second inning with an RBI groundout from Mya Higareda and added another when Hall doubled home Emma Haygood in the third. Each time UVU closed the gap, BYU responded with additional runs, including solo home runs at the start of both the fourth and fifth innings.

Britney Moreno contributed an RBI single for Utah Valley in the fourth inning. Hall’s two-run homer in the fifth brought UVU within one run at 6-5, but BYU extended their lead again with two more runs in the sixth and kept Utah Valley scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Looking ahead, Utah Valley will travel to Riverside, California for a three-game series against California Baptist University. The series begins Friday with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Mountain Time and concludes Saturday at 1 p.m., with all games available on ESPN+.
