Utah Valley lost 17-7 to the Air Force Academy on April 13 at Erdle Field. Mason Hamlin led Utah Valley with three hits, while Kaden Carpenter went three-for-four and hit his first career grand slam during the defeat. Tripp Garrish paced Air Force with four hits, including two home runs and eight runs batted in.
The game was notable for Carpenter extending his hitting streak to 16 consecutive games and reaching base safely in 17 straight, tying his season best. He began the game with a single on the third pitch and later scored after advancing on a steal and an error, followed by an RBI single from Mason Strong that gave Utah Valley an early lead.
Air Force responded quickly with a five-run first inning, highlighted by Garrish’s bases-clearing double. In the second inning, Hamlin hit a line drive home run to left field for Utah Valley. However, Air Force continued to build its lead by scoring in six of seven innings played, including four runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth.
Chipper Beck contributed for Utah Valley with three singles across four at-bats—his fourth multi-hit performance over his last six games. The Wolverines attempted a late rally in the seventh inning beginning with Derek Houston’s triple; after Trenton Rowan walked, Hamlin drove him home with another RBI single. Following another walk to Hunter Katschke, Carpenter hit a long home run to centerfield for his eighth of the season. This effort moved him into a tie for third place among Western Athletic Conference players this season with 42 RBIs.
The two teams are scheduled to conclude their brief two-game series on Tuesday, April 14 at Noon Mountain Time on the Mountain West Network. Utah Valley will return home Friday night for a three-game set against Utah Tech as part of the Old Hammer Rivalry.
