Utah Valley won both games of a doubleheader against the UT Arlington Mavericks on April 3, with scores of 9-6 and 13-7. Tatum Hall led the Wolverines by going 6-for-7 at the plate, hitting a home run, three doubles, and driving in eight runs. Britney Moreno reached base during every plate appearance and scored six times.
The series matters for both teams as it affects their standings in the Western Athletic Conference. Utah Valley improved to a record of 22-14 overall and evened its conference record at 4-4.
Hall continued her strong performance from earlier in the week against Weber State. Over three games this week, she collected a program-record thirteen runs batted in. Head coach Cody Thomson said, “Tatum’s continuing to be super impressive. I’m proud of her, she’s been working really hard.” He also said about his team’s effort: “The pitching did a good job today of just keeping that team off the basepaths, that’s a very good hitting team. We just have to keep everyone off base that we can.”
In game one, Utah Valley overcame an early deficit after UTA’s Mia McNulty hit a two-run homer. The Wolverines responded with five runs in the third inning to take control for good. Bailey Marvin contributed key hits throughout both games.
Moreno extended her streaks by reaching base for fifteen straight games and hitting safely in seven consecutive contests.
Game two saw Utah Valley match every rally by UTA, highlighted by a six-run second inning that included Payge Armendariz’s two-run home run and Amber Rodriguez’s two-run double.
Utah Valley will attempt to complete the series sweep on Saturday at noon Mountain Time.
