Utah Valley University defeated Northern Colorado 14-4 on March 8, with all nine starters recording hits and the team scoring in every inning. Hunter Katschke led the Wolverines with three extra-base hits, including a home run and four runs batted in. The win brings Utah Valley’s record to 7-6, while Northern Colorado falls to 2-17.
The game saw Utah Valley take an early lead as Luke Iverson singled and later scored on a double by Kaden Carpenter. Chipper Beck added a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage. In the second inning, Katschke doubled and was brought home by Jayden Smith’s fly ball. The Wolverines continued to capitalize on opportunities with runners in scoring position throughout the game.
Garrett Miller started for Utah Valley and earned his third win of the season, holding Northern Colorado hitless through more than three innings. Zeke Minic broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fourth for Northern Colorado. Utah Valley extended its lead with doubles from Massey and others, eventually amassing five doubles as a team.
Katschke’s home run in the fifth inning traveled over 430 feet and marked his fifth of the season. Carpenter reached base four times and scored four runs, both career highs. Beck also set a personal best by scoring three runs.
Jacob Beltran provided relief pitching for Utah Valley, delivering one and one-third scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Wolverines maintained pressure at the plate by drawing walks and working deep counts against Bears pitchers.
Utah Valley secured the series win with this victory and will play Northern Colorado again on Monday, March 9 at UCCU Ballpark. Following that game, UVU is scheduled to host Colorado Mesa before welcoming Cincinnati to Orem.
