Utah Valley University secured a doubleheader sweep against UC Riverside on Saturday at UCCU Ballpark, winning the first game 11-3 and the second 7-2. The Wolverines improved their season record to 4-6, while UC Riverside dropped to 3-8.
Kaden Carpenter led Utah Valley’s offense, going 5-for-9 with two home runs, four extra-base hits, and seven RBIs over the two games. As a team, Utah Valley hit .300 in both games combined and collected 12 extra-base hits. The pitching staff limited UC Riverside to a .185 batting average and allowed only 12 total hits across both contests.
In the opening game, Utah Valley scored five runs in the first inning. Carpenter drove in two with a double, followed by contributions from Luke Iverson, Mason Hamlin, Mason Strong, and Brody Block—who hit his first home run of the season. Iverson added his second homer of the year in the second inning.
Quinn Holt started for Utah Valley and pitched five innings in his home debut, giving up just two hits—a solo home run by Manoah Chapman and a double to Jaxon Byrd. Aaron Rice closed out the final three innings for his first save of the season. Carpenter finished with three RBIs in game one. Iverson moved into seventh place on Utah Valley’s career home run list with his 25th career homer.
In game two, Carpenter went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBIs. Starter Garrett Miller threw a personal-best five innings for Utah Valley. After UC Riverside took an early lead on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, Carpenter tied it with an opposite-field homer in the fourth. Derek Houston doubled and later scored to give Utah Valley a lead they would not relinquish.
Carpenter’s second homer of game two came after Cooper Brass doubled and Mason Hamlin walked; this extended Utah Valley’s lead to 5-1. Trey Jacobsen pitched two innings of relief with four strikeouts before Chipper Beck added insurance runs with a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
The series concludes Sunday at UCCU Ballpark with a noon first pitch broadcast on ESPN+ and local radio.
