Utah Valley Wolverines men’s baseball will travel to Abilene for a three-game Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series against the Abilene Christian Wildcats, starting May 8. The games are scheduled for Friday at 5:05 p.m. Mountain Time, Saturday at 2:05 p.m., and Sunday at 11:05 a.m.
The series is important as it marks Utah Valley’s last road trip of the regular season before returning home. The outcome could influence their standing in conference play as they approach the season finale.
The games will be broadcast on WAC International, which is free but requires a subscription. Roman Raffaeli will provide play-by-play commentary alongside analyst Josiah Wonell from Abilene. Fans can also follow live statistics through GoUVU.com/stats.
In their most recent outing, Utah Valley lost a midweek game to Utah Utes baseball by a score of 9-5. Despite the loss, Cooper Brass hit a two-run homer and Joseph Barnhardt recorded his first home run of the season in the fourth inning. Chipper Beck went three-for-four at bat while Trenton Rowan finished with three hits in three attempts.
Abilene Christian enters the weekend with an overall record of 23-25 and an even mark in conference play after winning its last series against Sacramento State. The matchup features some of the league’s top power hitters; Hunter Katschke and Diego Cardenas lead with twenty home runs each, while Grant Watkins has nineteen this season. JT Thompson and Zandt Payne are among ACU’s offensive leaders with batting averages above .320.
On pitching, ACU holds a team earned run average (ERA) of 6.75 this year and plans to start Aidan Coleman—who transferred from Pittsburgh—on Friday night. Brett Lanman continues to post strong strikeout numbers but struggled against UVU last season when he allowed six runs in Orem.
Looking ahead, Utah Valley will face BYU on May 12 before concluding its regular-season schedule at home against UT Arlington Mavericks beginning May 14.
