Utah Valley University lost a close game to Cal State San Bernardino on March 27, with a final score of 7-6 at UCCU Ballpark. The Wolverines had the tying and winning runs in scoring position during the ninth inning but could not complete the comeback.

The result matters for both teams as Utah Valley drops to a record of 10-14, while Cal State San Bernardino improves to 15-12. Late-inning rallies and key plays defined the match, keeping fans engaged until the final out.

Garrett Luna led CSUSB with three runs batted in, including a two-run home run in the ninth inning that provided what turned out to be the decisive margin. For Utah Valley, Chipper Beck recorded two hits and drove in two runs with a single in the ninth that brought his team within one run. Mason Hamlin and Brody Block each reached base three times for Utah Valley.

Bradley Gilbert made his first start for Utah Valley, pitching four innings while allowing only one hit and striking out two batters. Cooper Brass continued his strong performance with another multi-hit game, scoring on Jayden Smith’s single in the fifth inning. Hunter Katschke extended his hitting streak to eleven games after singling in the seventh.

In their last opportunity at bat, Utah Valley loaded the bases following walks by Hamlin and Block. Beck’s single scored two runners to make it a one-run game before Brass walked again to reload the bases. However, Jesse Alfaro of CSUSB struck out one batter and induced a groundout to end Utah Valley’s rally attempt.

The teams will meet again Saturday for game two of their weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+ as well as local radio stations.
