Utah Valley University men’s basketball head coach Todd Phillips announced on Apr. 15 the addition of Utah State transfer Jordy Barnes to the Wolverine program for the 2026-27 season.
Barnes, a point guard from Holladay, Utah, joins Utah Valley after two seasons with Utah State. During his time with the Aggies, he contributed to a Mountain West regular-season championship, a Mountain West Tournament title, and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Phillips said about Barnes: “I have watched Jordy play for many years. The thing that sticks out above everything is he’s a winner. He has won at every level. Two state titles in high school, an Adidas 3SSB AAU national championship and a Mountain West championship in college. Pumped to have him join our team. His leadership, toughness and ability to distribute the ball will make an immediate impact.”
Barnes played in 49 games over two seasons at Utah State and totaled 78 assists and 36 steals while averaging just over nine minutes per game. In his freshman year during the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 33 games and averaged 1.6 points, 2.1 assists and nearly one rebound per contest while totaling 35 steals. Notable performances included seven assists in a win at San Diego State and scoring eleven points against Colorado State.
Before joining Utah State, Barnes was recognized as one of Utah’s top high school players at Olympus High School where he was named the state’s Class 5A Player of the Year in his senior season after averaging double digits in points and assists along with strong rebounding numbers.
Barnes finished his prep career as a four-year starter who led Olympus to two state championships with a record-setting number of career assists (934), establishing new marks for both his school and across the state.
