Two BYU divers reach finals on first day of NCAA Zone E Championships

BYU had two divers advance to the finals on March 9 during the opening day of the NCAA Zone E Championships in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The event is significant for BYU as all three divers who competed are underclassmen, showing promise for the future of the program.

On the men’s side, Martí Llop and Ashton Sparks represented BYU in the 3-meter event. Llop finished 13th in preliminaries with a score of 328.85 and went on to place 17th in the finals with a score of 284.35. Sparks placed 26th in preliminaries with a score of 291.85.

For the women, freshman Brooklyn Goeckeritz was BYU’s only competitor on day one. She finished 14th in the preliminary round of the 1-meter event with a score of 255.70 and ended up placing 18th in finals with a total score of 234.15.

The team will return to competition at Northern Arizona University’s Aquatic and Tennis Complex for day two, where women will compete in the 3-meter event and men will participate on platform.
