Representative John Curtis has introduced the Spam Communications Assessment and Mitigation Platform (SCAM Platform) Act. This legislation proposes the creation of an AI-powered platform under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The platform would enable Americans to upload texts, emails, and letters they suspect may be scams. Using advanced AI technology, the portal would analyze these submissions to determine if they match known scams or show signs of fraudulent activity.
"Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their efforts to deceive Americans," said Rep. Curtis. "This legislation harnesses the power of AI to address evolving scam tactics. The SCAM Platform Act would provide a secure, user-friendly tool to help individuals quickly determine whether a communication they've received could be fraudulent."
The SCAM Platform Act instructs the FCC to establish a secure webpage powered by AI trained on patterns and tactics used in known scams. Users can upload suspicious communications to this platform, which will generate a rating indicating the likelihood that the item is a scam. Additionally, the platform will offer examples of similar known scams for further education and protection.
