Washington, D.C. — On April 19, 2023, Representative John Curtis (UT-03) released the following statement addressing the critical need for the United States to avoid defaulting on its debts and to restore fiscal responsibility. The statement comes in response to the introduction of a debt limit plan by House Republicans that grows the economy and limits spending:

“Point blank, there is too much on the line for the United States to default on its debts. The bill released today is a good-faith effort by House Republicans to begin reining in reckless spending,” said Rep. Curtis. “It displays some options at our disposal, and Americans should know that every spending decision made in the last few years is being questioned. This bill also proposes cuts to clean energy tax credits. While these credits were passed in a partisan manner, I have supported many of them individually and will continue to advocate for policies that lead to affordable, reliable, and clean energy. At the end of the day, we must make hard decisions to stop our out-of-control spending for the sake of our children and grandchildren and I look forward to robust debate to restore fiscal health."
