‘Fall is best time to clean-up’: Ace store president Steven Allred provides help to prep the yard before winter hits

4edited

Yard care requires different approaches each season, and fall is the time for property owners to repair damage caused by the hot summer months and protect their lawns from the harsh winter months ahead.

According to HouseLogic.com, property owners should use this time to remove dead grass, reseed and compost the soil, and weed their lawn to protect it from harmful plants encroaching. It is also recommended owners fertilize the soil at this time of year and repair any bald patches that may have appeared during the summer.

“The most important value that aligns with Ace is valuing the people,” Steven Allred, president of Allred's Ace Hardware at 1550 N State St, Orem, said in an interview with Utah Valley Times. “We exist to help others. I think that's probably the fun part of the business. We exist to help others so if we can help them, it's unlike other things we do in the business.”

Finding the right products is essential to shoring up the lawn for the winter, Allred said.

According to experts from Statista.com and BobVila.com, the average U.S. household spent nearly $200 on lawn care in 2020, depending on property size.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Americans spent approximately $105 billion in 2021 to maintain their lawns.

“Fall is the best time to clean-up and prep your yard for the Winter, plus set it up for a great Spring,” Ace Hardware officials said. “We have the best brands and advice to help everyone make their yard the best on their block.”
