BYU junior Ryder Robinson was named the Brooks Wallace Award National Player of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation on Mar. 17 for his performance at shortstop and at the plate last week.

The recognition highlights Robinson’s contributions to BYU’s baseball team, both offensively and defensively, as he helped lead the Cougars to a 3-1 record during that period.

Robinson, who is from American Fork, Utah, went 8 for 16 (.500) with three home runs, a triple, four runs batted in, four walks and six runs scored over the week. He also played error-free defense at shortstop, handling 18 chances with 12 assists and five put-outs. His efforts contributed to BYU’s mid-week win over Utah Tech and a series victory against Cincinnati.

For the season so far, Robinson is batting .321 with five home runs, 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored through 18 games. Last year as a sophomore in 2025, he was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and earned other academic honors while starting all games at shortstop and helping set a school-record fielding percentage of .978.

The Brooks Wallace Award is given annually to college baseball’s top shortstop by the College Baseball Foundation and College Baseball Hall of Fame. The award honors Brooks Wallace, who played at Texas Tech from 1977-80 before passing away from leukemia at age 27. Each week during the season one shortstop is recognized nationally.

The College Baseball Foundation aims to preserve and advance college baseball while celebrating its history and those who have contributed to it. The organization also oversees voting for induction into the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Since its first class in 2006, there have been 175 inductees including players, coaches, umpires and contributors. In 2026, a physical location for the Hall of Fame will open in Overland Park, Kansas.
