BYU baseball defeated Utah 6-5 in a non-conference game at America First Ballpark in Salt Lake City, according to a March 24 announcement. Ryder Robinson led the Cougars with a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4 and contributing two runs and two runs batted in.
The win marks head coach Trent Pratt’s 100th career victory at BYU. The game saw both teams leave ten runners on base, with BYU recording eleven hits and Utah twelve.
“It was a complete team victory tonight. I thought everyone did something to help us win,” said BYU head baseball coach Trent Pratt. “I thought we pitched it well, played great defense and got some clutch hitting from Ryder Robinson.”
Robinson reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances and is the reigning Brooks Wallace Award National Player of the Week. Other notable performances included Easton Jones with two hits and two runs batted in, Crew McChesney driving in one run, and Tu’alau Wolfgramm scoring once with a double.
BYU took an early lead but trailed after Utah scored three runs in the second inning. The Cougars regained control late, highlighted by Robinson’s key single for a seventh-inning lead and insurance runs added by Jones and Erickson. Defensive plays by Keoni Painter and Wolfgramm secured the win after Utah threatened with a ninth-inning home run.
True freshman Jaxson Clayton earned his first win as a Cougar while senior Ashton Johnson recorded his second save of the season.
Looking ahead, BYU will host Oklahoma State for a three-game Big 12 Conference series beginning March 26. All games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as local radio outlets.
