BYU’s Robert Wright III was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Mar. 24.
The recognition highlights student-athletes who excel both in their sport and academically. The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America program acknowledges basketball players across four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Honorees from the Academic All-District list are eligible for consideration as finalists for the CSC Academic All-America teams. Those selected as finalists will advance to a national ballot, with first-, second-, and third-team honorees set to be announced on April 14. To qualify for this distinction, student-athletes must be sophomores or above academically, maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, and serve as either starters or key reserves on their teams.
Wright III played a leading role in guiding BYU to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance during his sophomore season. He averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game while earning Third Team All-Big 12 honors after scoring in double figures in 32 games and recording thirteen games with at least twenty points each—including a career-high thirty-nine points in an overtime win against Colorado.
Wright’s season total of six hundred thirty-two points ties him for twentieth most in a single season in BYU program history. He also recorded one hundred sixty-two assists this year—the tenth highest single-season mark by a Cougar—with two games featuring double-digit assist numbers.
