The No. 78 ranked BYU Cougars women’s golf team finished the second round of the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship in tenth place at Dallas Athletic Club, according to an April 24 update. The team posted a combined score of 15-over-par for the day, bringing their total to a 23-over-par through two rounds.
This standing highlights the competitive nature of the championship and sets up a final round where teams will look to improve their positions. Head coach Carrie Roberts addressed her team’s performance by saying, “Hoping to regroup and give a better effort tomorrow,” and added, “We didn’t manage the wind very well today.”
Houston maintained its lead with a scorecard of four-under-par over two rounds, followed by UCF at even par and Iowa State at two-over-par rounding out the top three spots. Arizona State and Oklahoma State completed the top five leaderboard positions after Friday’s play.
Individually for BYU, Lily McCauley moved into a tie for thirteenth place after shooting an even-par round with four birdies on her back nine, making her one-over-par overall going into Saturday’s final round. Ava Schroeder was tied for nineteenth at two-over-par across both days, while Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan ended Friday tied for forty-second place at five-over-par.
Other Cougar participants included Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul tying for sixtieth with thirteen-over-par and Whitney Banz sitting in sixty-fourth position at fifteen-over-par after two rounds.
