BYU men’s volleyball, ranked No. 7 nationally, will travel for two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) matches against No. 18 Stanford on Friday and Saturday, according to a March 12 announcement.

The upcoming games are significant as both teams are competing for position within the MPSF standings. BYU enters the weekend with a strong record of 15-4, while Stanford holds a record of 7-8 but remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0.

BYU recently secured two victories in California over UC Merced and Jessup to begin its MPSF schedule. The Cougars’ only losses this season have come against teams ranked No. 3 and No. 4 nationally. Offensively, Trent Moser and Connor Oldani each average more than 3.1 kills per set with hitting percentages above .330, while setter Tyler Herget averages 10.22 assists per set, ranking seventh-best in the country. Middle blocker Gavin Chambers is ninth nationally with an average of 1.153 blocks per set.

Stanford has experienced mixed results this season but has won all four of its conference matches so far. All of the Cardinal’s losses have been to nationally ranked opponents, and they recently swept Saint Francis at home last weekend. Moses Wagner leads Stanford with an average of 3.12 kills per set; Kaumana Carreira leads in blocks, and Alex Rottman holds the team’s highest hitting percentage.

Historically, BYU leads the all-time series against Stanford by a margin of 35-18. Last season, the teams met three times: BYU won twice during the regular season in Provo, while Stanford claimed victory in the MPSF Tournament to end BYU’s postseason run.

Both matches this weekend will be available for live viewing on Big Ten Plus.
