The No. 57 BYU Cougars men’s tennis team lost their first home match of the season, falling 4-0 to the No. 17 Arizona Wildcats at the Outdoor Tennis Courts on March 12.
This loss marks a setback for BYU, which now holds a record of 12-3 and has lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season. The defeat came during their Big 12 Conference opener.
In doubles play, all three matches were closely contested, but Arizona secured victories on the first two courts to take an early lead. In singles competition, Arizona maintained momentum by winning the first set on five out of six courts. Adam Chodur was the only Cougar to win his opening set with a narrow tiebreak victory.
Yubel Ubri returned from injury for his first singles match since BYU’s Colorado road trip but was unable to recover after dropping the first set and ultimately lost in straight sets. Arizona clinched the overall win with consecutive victories on courts five and six.
Looking ahead, BYU will face another challenge at home as they prepare to play against No. 35 Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
