BYU’s women’s tennis team defeated Baylor 4-3 on Apr. 2 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas, clinching the victory in a third-set tiebreak on the final court.

The match was decided when Gracie Levelston and Baylor’s No. 48 Na Dong entered a third-set tiebreak at No. 1 singles with the overall score tied at three points each. An overrule on the opening point led to a game penalty against Baylor, which awarded BYU the deciding point and secured their win.

BYU took an early lead by winning the doubles point. The No. 59 pair of Kendall Kovick and Levelston defeated Zuzanna Kubacha and Gabrielle Villegas 6-4 on Court 1, while Bella Lewis and Sue Yan Tan won their match against Luna Ivkovic and Neda Rahimkhani with a score of 7-5 on Court 3. On Court 2, Baylor’s Na Dong and Alian Zack overcame Sage Bergeson and YuYun Chen with a score of 6-4.

In singles play, Levelston beat Na Dong in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 [7-0]) on Court 1 for BYU’s first singles win. Other victories for BYU included Tan defeating Kennedy Gibbs (6-4, 6-1) on Court 3 and Chen overcoming Zack (6-4, 5-7, 6-2) on Court 4. Baylor responded with wins from Kubacha over Kovick (6-4, 6-1) on Court 2; Mu Jie Tzeng over Bergeson (6‑4, 6‑0) on Court 5; and Ivkovic over Karina Mohamed (6‑3, 6‑3) on Court 6.

With this result, BYU improved its season record to 18‑4 while Baylor moved to 11‑7.

Looking ahead, BYU will continue its road trip facing No. 22 TCU in Fort Worth this Saturday at 10 a.m.
