The No. 27 BYU women’s tennis team will play its last two matches of the regular season at home, facing No. 11 Arizona State on Thursday, April 9, and No. 29 Arizona on Saturday, April 11, according to an April 7 announcement.

These matches are important as they mark the end of the regular season and could impact conference standings and postseason seeding for all teams involved.

BYU enters the weekend ranked No. 27 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings—its highest national ranking since reaching No. 26 in 2006—and is looking to build momentum ahead of the Big 12 Championship. The Cougars recently split a road trip with a win over No. 38 Baylor and a loss to No. 22 TCU, after earning victories against ranked opponents Kansas State and Oklahoma State earlier in conference play.

Arizona State arrives with a record of 17-4 overall and is currently on a seven-match winning streak with key wins against Texas Tech and Colorado this season. Arizona holds a record of 17-8 overall, including recent victories over UCF, Houston, Kansas, Texas Tech, and most recently sweeping Texas Tech.

Saturday’s match will also serve as Senior Day for Kendall Kovick who has contributed significantly during her time at BYU. Kovick has posted a singles record of seven wins this season while mainly playing in the middle lineup positions; she also has ten doubles wins across multiple pairings this year alongside being part of the ITA-ranked duo with Gracie Levelston that reached the NCAA Doubles Round of 16 last fall.

With both matches being their first meetings against these Arizona schools this season—and with postseason implications at stake—the Cougars have an opportunity to strengthen their position before heading into championship play.
