BYU gymnastics, ranked No. 24 nationally, will face the No. 14 Clemson Tigers on Friday, March 13 at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The upcoming meet is significant as it marks the first meeting between BYU and Clemson in women’s gymnastics since at least 2000. Both teams are coming off strong performances and hold national rankings in multiple events.
BYU recently competed in a tri meet against West Virginia and Utah, finishing second with a score of 196.550—its third-highest score this season. The Cougars led the meet on beam with a total of 49.275 and have scored above 196 in five of their last six meets, including three road competitions. In addition to their overall ranking, BYU holds national event rankings: vault (26), bars (21), beam (24), and floor (24). At Utah’s tri meet, BYU tied its best bars event score this season with a 49.150 and surpassed the 49-point mark in all four events for only the second time this year.
Individual highlights include Alilah Alvarado, Scarlett Sonnenberg, and Brynlee Andersen-Broekman sharing the top spot on beam with scores of 9.875; Sonnenberg also achieved a new career high on beam during that competition.
Clemson most recently participated in the Elevate the Stage quad meet against Georgia, Auburn, and Pitt at the Von Braun Center, earning third place with a score of 196.875 and raising its National Qualifying Score to 196.621. This was Clemson’s sixth consecutive team score above 196.500. The Tigers’ floor lineup saw all six gymnasts post scores of at least 9.850 for just the second time in program history, resulting in a team floor total of 49.525.
The meet is scheduled for Friday at Littlejohn Coliseum with live coverage available through ACCN.
