The No. 23 ranked Brigham Young University men’s golf team will compete in the 79th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California, from April 13 to April 15.
The event is recognized as the longest running tournament in NCAA golf and marks BYU’s seventh consecutive appearance. The competition brings together a field of fifteen schools, including host San Jose State, Oregon, Stanford, San Diego State, Cal, UC Irvine, Chattanooga, Arizona, Pepperdine, UNLV, USC, Hawaii, Washington and Nihon.
BYU enters the tournament following a fourth-place finish at The Goodwin. Kihei Akina finished as runner-up there—his third straight event finishing second or better. The Cougars’ lineup for the Western Intercollegiate features Akina alongside Simon Kwon, Peter Kim, Tyson Shelley and Jackson Mauss. Junior Angus Klintworth will compete as an individual.
The first round begins Monday at 1:36 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time (MDT). Each round will be televised nationally on Golf Channel starting at 5 p.m. MDT each day. Live scoring updates are available on Scoreboard with additional updates posted to Instagram and X.
As one of collegiate golf’s most established events and with national television coverage planned throughout the tournament days this year’s Western Intercollegiate provides significant exposure for all participating teams.
