No. 10 BYU men’s volleyball will play two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) matches at Vanguard on Thursday and Friday, following two four-set home losses to Pepperdine last weekend, according to an April 1 announcement.
The upcoming matches are significant as both teams hold a conference record of 4-4, and this will be the first time they meet in competition. The Cougars aim to recover from recent setbacks while Vanguard enters the games on a four-match winning streak.
BYU currently holds a season record of 17-8. All eight of their losses have come against teams ranked in the national top-15, with six against top-six opponents. Trent Moser leads BYU with an average of 3.25 kills per set and a .333 hitting percentage. Tyler Herget is averaging 10.10 assists per set, ranking second in the MPSF and seventh nationally, while Gavin Chambers averages exactly one block per set, third-best in the conference.
Vanguard has improved its season standing to an overall record of 8-11 after sweeping UC Merced at home and winning two five-set matches at Jessup last weekend. Their most notable win was against No. 9 UC San Diego earlier this season. Cole Oliver leads Vanguard offensively with an average of 2.68 kills per set and holds a .412 hitting percentage, which ranks eighth in the MPSF.
This week’s matchups mark the first meetings between BYU and Vanguard men’s volleyball teams. Both matches will be available for live viewing on Big Ten Plus.
