Lia Katoa achieved a top-10 mark in the hammer throw on April 4 during the final day of the Bobcat Invitational at the Texas State Track & Field Complex in Austin, Texas. Katoa recorded a distance of 58.25 meters (191 feet, 1 inch), earning her fifth place in the event and moving her to fourth on her program’s all-time hammer throw list.
Katoa now holds two spots on her team’s outdoor top-10 records for this event. Her performance was one of several notable results for BYU athletes over the weekend.
At the Texas Relays, Paje Rasmussen finished third in the women’s 100-meter final with a time of 11.21 seconds. Including indoor competitions, Rasmussen has not placed lower than third this season across multiple sprint events: the 55 meters, 60 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters.
Other performances included Mae Johnson taking seventh place in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches). Kali McEuen finished ninth in the women’s 100-meter hurdles final with a time of 13.66 seconds.
Looking ahead, BYU is scheduled to compete at the Utah Spring Open from April 10 to April 11. Events will be held at Weber State University on Friday and at Utah on Saturday.
