Sila Kiplagat set a new school record in the 1500-meter event for Utah Valley University on April 3, leading the team’s performances across three meets: the UNLV Rebel ELITE, Mike Fanelli Track Classic, and Stanford Invitational.
Kiplagat finished his heat with a time of 3:40.74, which was not only the best in his group but also ranked as the tenth-fastest overall among a strong field of national competitors. His result marks the fastest time in the Western Athletic Conference this season.
Other notable performances included Morgan Nokes competing at Stanford in the women’s 10,000 meters. Nokes finished eighth in her section with a time of 32:20.03—just seventeen seconds shy of Everlyn Kemboi’s school record—and improved her personal best by forty-eight seconds to move from fourth to second all-time at Utah Valley. In another section of the same event, Ari Trimble set a personal record of 33:45.29 and moved up to sixth all-time for the university.
At Las Vegas, Pierce Vittone and Max Clemons achieved new personal records in the men’s 800 meters with times of 1:49.34 and 1:50.60 respectively; Vittone won his race while Clemons placed fourth overall. On the women’s side, Bria Anderson recorded her season-best performance at 2:12.05 to tie for sixth all-time as she took third place, while Jennaveve Bingham narrowly missed her personal best but finished second overall.
Gavin Stafford debuted at fifth all-time for Utah Valley after setting a new personal record of 20.92 seconds in the men’s 200-meter dash—second-best this season within WAC behind teammate Kade Thompson’s mark of 20.81 seconds.
The weekend will conclude with further competitions across all three meets as more athletes from Utah Valley are scheduled to compete.
