Hutchens leads Utah Valley in opening round of Bandon Dunes Championship

Colby Hutchens led the Utah Valley men’s golf team on March 8 with a score of 2-under-par 69 in the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship at Pacific Dunes Golf Course.

Hutchens made five birdies during his round and is tied for 17th place out of 96 players after the opening day. The tournament features teams from across the region, and strong individual performances are important for overall team standings.

Paxton Maxwell finished with a 1-under-par 70, recording six birdies and tying for 27th place. Ty Brady ended his round at even-par 71, placing him in a tie for 43rd. Isaiah Ellis shot a 1-over-par 72 to tie for 53rd, while Elliot Bond carded a 4-over-par 75 and is tied for 79th. Andrew Hawk, competing as an individual, posted a score of 3-over-par 74 to tie for 72nd.

As a team, Utah Valley recorded an even-par total of 284 and is tied for eighth place among the fifteen teams participating after one round.

The Wolverines will continue their play in the Bandon Dunes Championship with the second round scheduled for Monday.
