Jane Hedengren ran a time of 4:31.10 in the mile invite at the Robison Invitational, making it the sixth-fastest performance in National Collegiate Athletic Association history, according to a May 1 announcement.
Hedengren, a true freshman, achieved this mark during her first outdoor mile race. Her second split was her fastest at 1:06.82. Taylor Lovell, also from BYU Cougars Women’s Track & Field, recorded the eighth-fastest time in NCAA history with a finish of 4:31.53 and had an anchor split of 1:07.41. Both athletes finished second and third in the event.
Jenna Hutchins set a personal best with a time of 4:32.73 to secure fourth place, while Taylor Rohatinsky finished fifth at 4:34.57.
In the women’s 800-meter race, Krystie Solomon-Jensen placed third and matched her personal best with a time of 2:03.43. Kylie Olsen and Rohatinsky completed the top five with times of 2:06.26 and 2:06.66 respectively; Rohatinsky’s result marked a new personal record.
The performances highlight significant achievements for several team members as they continue their season.
