BYU’s Robert Wright III and AJ Dybantsa were named to the Big 12 Starting Five on March 9, joining Baylor’s Tounde Yessoufou, Kansas’ Tre White, and Colorado’s Isaiah Johnson.
The recognition highlights the strong performances of both players during the past week. Their selection reflects their contributions to BYU’s basketball program as it competes in the Big 12 conference.
Wright III led BYU with an average of 24.0 points per game over two games last week, shooting 51.5 percent from the field and making all 13 free throw attempts. After scoring 21 points in a loss to Cincinnati, he recorded a game-high 27 points in BYU’s win over No. 10 Texas Tech at the Marriott Center, going nine-for-17 from the field and perfect from the free throw line.
Dybantsa earned his eleventh selection to the Big 12 Starting Five this season by averaging 22.0 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game. He scored a combined total of 44 points across two games—23 against Cincinnati with six rebounds and six assists, followed by a performance of 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists in what may have been his final home game at the Marriott Center as BYU defeated Texas Tech for its first win over the Red Raiders since joining the conference.
The Cougars are set to begin play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, March 10, facing Kansas State at 6 p.m. Central Time on ESPN+.
