Colby Hutchens led the Utah Valley University men’s golf team with a top-20 finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, which concluded on April 1 at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
The tournament is an important event for collegiate golf teams, providing a competitive platform ahead of upcoming championships. Utah Valley finished 17th out of 25 teams with a total score of 17-over-par 881 across three rounds. The University of Southern California secured the team title at 26-under-par, ahead of Arkansas State and Grand Canyon.
Hutchens recorded a three-round score of 3-under-par 213 (69-72-72), tying for 20th place individually. His opening round score of three-under-par (69) was among the best performances for Utah Valley during the tournament. Ty Brady tied for 77th with a total score of six-over-par (222), while Paxton Maxwell finished tied for 84th at eight-over-par (224). Andrew Hawk ended tied for 104th after carding twelve-over-par (228), and Elliot Bond completed the lineup with twenty-one-over-par (237).
The two-day event saw teams complete their suspended second round on Tuesday morning before playing the final eighteen holes later that day.
Utah Valley’s next competition will be at the Arkansas State Spring Invitational from April 13 to April 14 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. This event will serve as their final preparation before participating in the Western Athletic Conference Championship.
