Five BYU Cougars athletes earned podium finishes on day two of the Big 12 Championships while two more advanced to upcoming finals events. The team currently stands sixth overall as competition continues.
The No. 24 BYU men’s golf team heads into its final regional under coach Bruce Brockbank from May 18-20 at the University of Georgia Golf Club. A top-five finish would send them to the national championship.
Taylor Lovell set championship records as she won the women’s steeplechase at Drachman Stadium during day two of Big 12 action. Her performance helped Brigham Young University take an early lead heading into further competition.
Utah Valley University won against UT Arlington with a walk-off bunt for a final score of 10-9. The victory featured strong offensive performances and aggressive baserunning from UVU players. The team will finish its season with one more game while honoring graduating seniors.
A late home run gave No.14 ranked Kansas a narrow win over BYU at Miller Park, securing both victory in game two of their series and clinching their first Big 12 regular-season title since 1949. Despite Easton Jones’ dramatic three-run homer to tie it up for BYU, Kansas prevailed.
BYU baseball travels to Lubbock this week for a three-game series against Texas Tech starting May 7. The Cougars look to improve their position ahead of their final home stand versus Kansas next week.
The No.24 men’s golf team was chosen as a No.4 seed for this year’s NCAA Athens Regional tournament beginning May 18 at University of Georgia Golf Course. Director Todd Miller and player Simon Kwon shared their outlook ahead of competition against top-ranked programs.
