BYU announced on April 8 that its women’s track and field team will split its squad for competitions at the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, California, on April 9-10, and the Utah-Weber State Spring Classic held at McCarthy Family Track and Field Complex and Stewart Stadium on April 10-11.
The upcoming meets are important opportunities for BYU athletes to test their skills against strong competition early in the season. These events allow competitors to achieve qualifying marks for future championships while gaining experience across multiple disciplines.
At the Bryan Clay Multis, Zoey Bonds and Tia Brown are scheduled to compete in the heptathlon for the first time this season. Bonds enters with a notable performance after recording a time of 13.46 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles at the Trojan Invitational, ranking her seventh all-time at BYU. Brown also had a strong showing recently by placing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.15.
For the Weber State Spring Classic, BYU’s throws squad will include Kaiah Fisher, Lia Katoa, Kat Beachler, Lia Pili, and Jayda Lee. Fisher set a new personal best last weekend at the Bobcat Invitational with a discus throw of 54.60 meters (179-2), marking her as fifth all-time in program history. Katoa achieved fourth all-time at BYU with her hammer throw of 58.25 meters (191-1) during that same meet.
Mae Johnson and Sarena Mackley are slated to participate in both high jump events; Mackley will also compete in long jump while Johnson comes off a third-place finish from last week’s Bobcat Invitational after clearing 1.71 meters (5-7¼). In sprints and hurdles events, Berklie Ahlander and Madelynne Taggart will race both the 100m hurdles as well as join Mackley and Mikensi Smith for relay duties.
Mackley is further entered into javelin and shot put competitions alongside Fisher and Pili during the Utah Spring Classic portion of this weekend’s schedule.
