No. 29 BYU women’s tennis lost to No. 41 UCF with a score of 4-1 on Thursday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. This result moves BYU to an overall record of 11-2 for the season.
UCF secured the doubles point by winning matches on courts one and two, both ending with a 6-3 score. The third doubles match was tied at 5-5 when the point was decided.
In singles competition, UCF extended its lead with straight-set victories on courts five and six. Sage Bergeson lost her match 6-1, 6-0, and Bella Lewis was defeated 6-3, 6-4, giving UCF a 3-0 advantage.
Gracie Levelston earned BYU’s only point with a win at the top singles spot, finishing her match 6-2, 6-3.
The deciding match took place on court two. Kendall Kovick dropped the first set but pushed the second set to a tiebreak before losing 7-6.
Two singles matches were unfinished when play ended. Sue Yan Tan had split sets and was tied in the third set at 2-2. On court four, YuYun Chen lost the first set and was tied in the second set at 6-6 when play stopped.
BYU will continue Big 12 conference play on Saturday with an away match against Houston Cougars scheduled for noon MST.
