BYU women’s tennis defeated Colorado 4-2 on March 19 at the Meadows Club in Boulder, improving its season record to 14-4. The Cougars overcame an early setback in doubles play by winning four singles matches to secure the victory.
The match was significant as it demonstrated BYU’s ability to recover from a deficit and highlighted the team’s depth. After losing the doubles point with Colorado taking wins at No. 2 and No. 3 positions, BYU’s Gracie Levelston and Karina Mohamed managed a win at court one but it was not enough to claim the overall doubles point.
In singles, Levelston led with a straight-set win at No. 1, followed by Sue Yan Tan’s victory at No. 3 after a tiebreak in the second set. Bella Lewis contributed another point for BYU at No. 6 with a two-set win that included a close first set. YuYun Chen clinched the match for BYU at No. 4 singles, defeating Lera Alexin in two tight sets, both ending 7-5.
The remaining match featuring Sage Bergeson went unfinished once BYU secured the team result. The Cougars’ performance in singles underscored their resilience and composure under pressure.
Looking ahead, BYU will continue Big 12 conference play against Texas Tech on Saturday, March 21 in Lubbock.
